Goodbye, 2014!

The annual year in review (a day late):

January:
I quit my (awful) job after a particularly soulsucking conversation with a coworker. Rory turned four.

Birthday party at Paradise Park.
February:
Since we now had crappy insurance, Ryan spent part of an evening at the ER with a nasal hemorrhage that ended up being cauterized (and no nose bleeds since). My clumsy 8 months pregnant self fell down the garage steps, broke a toe, sprained an ankle, and bloodied my face on the side of my car. The lame nurse didn't know how to properly tape a broken toe (I learned later) and now I have a permanently crooked toe.  I had a lovely baby shower, hosted by Jess and Christie.
Carolyn matched her onesie design to her gift. Like a boss.

March:
Baby Andrew was born! We had a perfect (and fast) home birth.

Gorgeous photo by Christina Lundeen!

April:
A large hail storm did major damage to both of our houses. We settled in with the tiny boy.
That shirt has been thrown out, but I love this picture.

May:
Again, with terrible insurance, my primary physician forgot my uterus tilts forward and shoved my IUD through it, resulting in a surprise laproscopy and hysteroscopy. A week after my surgery, Rory accidentally dropped Andrew on his head on tile floor, landing on top of him. After a trip to Urgent Care, we were sent to Children's Mercy. He had a subarachnoid hemorrhage, which he made a full recovery from (thank goodness for soft baby head bones, they moved around the bleed. He never acted like he had a headache). And yay crappy insurance. Also, a wind storm knocked huge branches off almost every tree in our back yard. Rory had her dance recital and drama performance.
A favorite picture, at Loose Park.

June:
We got to see Ben Folds (front row) at the Kauffman center. We restained and replaced boards on our deck, and cleared out all the destruction. Another branch fell and ripped the telephone line and siding off our house. I took the wallpaper down in the bathroom and repainted it. My cousin got married, and we all had fun at the wedding
A panorama of the destruction.
July:
We redid the office, laying down hardwood floors and repainting to make it Andrew's room. Quentin and my mom came for a visit. Ryan interviewed for his current job. I started running.
Greeting Grandma at the airport.
August:
We replaced three ceiling fans in the house and started taking wallpaper off the dining room. My friend Jessica took me out for a Choose Your Own Adventure birthday, which included delicious food and a drag show. I took a cake baking class with Carrie for our birthdays. My in-laws came into town, and we all went to the amusement park.
Chunky bum at the pool.
September:
The kids and I went to New England for two weeks to visit and introduce Andrew. We had a lovely time, and, as usual, I came home completely devastated I don't live closer to my family. Ryan started his job at KCPL, and had two weeks to get used to it without us around.
An absolute favorite. Dad never smiles for pictures, so kind of rare.
October:
The dining room wallpaper removal and painting finally got finished. It has new window treatments, too, but still needs light fixtures. Ryan and I had a lovely date night to one of the nicest restaurants in KC (unfortunately, I did not make drinking game plan ahead of time and don't remember much of it). After too much ridiculousness, I quit the Party Arty planning committee.
Brushing my Rapunzel hair (before I cut 6 inches off)
November:
We took a trip to CO to celebrate Ryan's grandmother's 90th birthday. We got to see John Cleese live at the Midland, fulfilling one of Ryan's dreams to see a Python live. I went to the first Kansas City Noir festival and met Peggy Cummins (and got her to autograph a book about the movie she was in, securing Dad's Christmas present early). We hosted Thanksgiving for Ryan's parents, uncle, and my cousins.
This picture always reminds me of Kramer.
December:
We had a lovely holiday. No Christmas party, but lots of baking, movies, and togetherness. I took Rory ice skating. We hosted several couples at our house for dinner. I got Ryan a new overcoat and an office chair for Christmas. He got me a Garmin Vivosmart and a heart monitor, so I can quantify everything when I run (I LOVE it). I think I might need the new Forerunner, though... The grandparents absolutely spoiled the kids, our tree was packed. Ryan and I said goodbye to this lovely hectic year in style at The Elms, and started 2015 with massages.
Such a fun night.
