I give my Gracie dog a lot of shit, because, well, she can be kind of a doofus. But, if we're being honest, she's very sweet, brilliant in an savant kind of way, eager to please, and most excellent with my baby.
I can actually say "Gracie, watch the baby" and leave the room to go move laundry or pee or whatever and I will return to find Gracie laying on the floor next to Rory, letting the baby play with her paws. I couldn't ask for a better dog as far as my baby goes.
As far as my food goes? Well, she's a dirty thieving traitor who ate 12 chicken legs at my birthday party, and chased it with half a plate of brownies. In the hall of famous Gracie devourings, there hangs a raspberry pie, a bag of dry rice, a bag of basil, pumpkin bread, pound cake, a bag of chips, too many iced Starbucks coffees to count (WHAT THE HELL), and a plastic ziplock bag.
As you can guess, she's kind of fat.
But here are some photos of baby's best, best friend. Rory ADORES her and they lay on the floor and kiss each other. Rory can grab Gracie's nose and mouth, pull her ears, pick at her toenails and Gracie just takes it (occasionally moving a paw out of reach if she's done). It's really kind of an 'awwww!' thing to see.
The first of Gracie's talents we discovered. If you lay on your back, she will join you.
Gracie has been protective of Rory from day one. I often wonder if it's because she hung out in the birthing room.
She is always careful with her paws around the baby.

Nothing better than a car ride.
Except maybe hiking
Chewing on their toys.
Being silly
Waiting outside Rory's room for her to wake up from nap.
Wasn't us!

That's awesome. What sweet girls you have. You are right, Gracie's gentleness and protectiveness of Rory is probably because she was there when Rory was born--also its probably tapping into that maternal instinct that most females have, whether they had kids of their own or not. Someday, we will rescue a weim again. Although I'd like a puppy because dear lord there really is no cuter more adorable puppy then a weim. Just going to have to wait till we have MUCH fewer animals so that weim can have all the attention He (or she!) wants.
Ok, as far as Gracie eating things, you forgot to mention the night she ate who know how many carrots and onions from your backyard and then proceeded to puke them up all over your house!!!
