Some things

  • I am on a baking bonanza. My first foray into macarons was surprisingly successful. They are not pretty enough for a bakery (need to practice a steady piping hand), but they are delicious enough to eat.
  • Tonight I made a vanilla cake filled with strawberries and jam and frosted with a strawberry cream cheese frosting. The frosting needed more powdered sugar to be stiff enough to decorate with, but the flavor was perfect, so I'm just letting it be gooey. The recipe for the cake was so perfect it will be my new go to for birthday cakes.
  • I made a couple pear galettes with vanilla custard, they were pretty awesome.
  • I have also been eating salads and protein. Seriously.
  • I also made lemon bars.
  • Rory has been a little delight. Lots of fun new sayings and discoveries.
  • She got a package of my brother's old books from my mom. She was really hoping it was binoculars and roller skates. Guess what grandma sent her as a result? It should arrive tomorrow.
  • I'm going to try to get a video of her opening it, I imagine the excitement will be CRAZY.
  • I took the job. The attitude about my pregnancy, as well as them offering (without me negotiating for) three weeks until my start date so I can arrange child care won me over. And they all bake!
  • Ryan is working from home a lot, so child care is going to be a nice and gradual change
  • No word on the rental. Ryan is looking into a collection agency, something to get the situation on her credit report.
  • I really just want her out and this whole thing done. I feel like I was duped.
  • Next week Rory has meet the teacher day, the first day of school, and the first day of dance class.
  • Ryan and I start our new divvied up chore list next week, so we can get in the habit before I'm gone all day. Test for holes.
  • Rory has new chores, too. Tonight she learned how to put away dishes while standing on a chair (instead of just silverware) and how to load the dishwasher.
  • She also got to practice cracking eggs, and can now do it without getting any shells in.
  • I had a great birthday. Lovely dinners with friends and the homey. Mom re-outfitted my kitchen with new baking gear. Rory got to eat ice cream cake.
