Down by the bay

A few weeks ago I posted about a rough few weeks we had. I must say, thinks have improved significantly.

My grandma is moved into her new house and doing very well. She had tests done today and everything came back great. She says her doctors want her to be perfect, but she gave up on that long ago.

Our tenant has moved on, though still owes us lots of money. I'm fine with just letting it go. She's out, she left the place in great shape, let's just be done, but Ryan is looking into ways to recoup some of the cost. He's less of a wuss than I am.

My cousins are moving in on Oct. 1, so we have a couple weeks to do the little bit of cleaning needed to get it ready.

Rory loves her new school. And our decision to gradually move her to full time seems to be the right one. She had her first full day of school on Monday, and Tuesday she was very upset that she wouldn't get to stay all day again. And then she was upset when Ryan picked her up. She can't wait to get to stay every day.

The discipline issues we were having dissolved when we stopped being quite so rigid with her and remembered to be patient. We did remove the 10 minutes, and the other rules stand, we just haven't needed to implement them. Her manners have returned, and she seems less stressed.

The job started yesterday, and I came home a zombie and less than impressed with the position. However, it pays well, offers great benefits, and I can leave it at work when I get home, all very big positives. Today I found out why I was hired: the company is expanding from just print to lots of digital and email marketing, and I am positioned to become a major resource in that process (a former customer of mine is a VP there now, and recommended me strongly based on that). I got MUCH more excited when I found that out, and started subscribing to my professional journals so I can stay on top of education opportunities and make the most of this.

So, yes, things are settling back down. I'm still in a little bit of turmoil over maternity leave, as that hasn't been nailed down, but I have plenty of time to worry about that (the woman who hired me suggested I wait a month before telling HR. "I know something about you, and you know something about you, but let's keep HR out of this for a bit.")

Currently, Rory is singing "Down By The Bay" at the top of her lungs and not sleeping. And we are cracking up and not looking forward to tomorrow's wake up call.
