Father's Day is for suckers.

This Father's Day could have been full of tears and frustration, but thank goodness for laughter. We'd planned to repair our deck this weekend for months. Started late Saturday, but got everything torn up and the lumber bought. And then WHAM. BIG STORM. Here's our yard:

So Ryan went on a chain saw hunt, found one with a friend. In the meantime, I had borrowed a waffle iron for Father's Day since they are his favorite. The recipe said let them cook for 3 minutes, the waffle iron said ten minutes. And then put them in the oven. So it was taking about 15 minutes per waffle, which is not a particularly quick way to feed people. I told people to eat, but nobody would hear of it, so breakfast was at about 12pm. Ryan had found syrup in the cupboard, saving me from buying any. When I poured it over his, Rory's, and my waffles it turns out it had been in the cupboard for a while, and I poured moldy syrup all over the waffles I'd spent an hour making. Fortunately, I'd made Lee a bourbon peach syrup (he loves peaches) for a Father's Day treat, so we all had that instead.

Ryan drove with his family to get the chain saw, show them the data center he's building, and pick up the circular saw he'd left there (better for wood cutting). While he was gone, I planned to make a strawberry rhubarb pie, only to realize I'd used up the last of my flour making those god forsaken waffles.

The fam got back, and YAY for storms! The lumber had swelled and was all too big. So they did extra cuts and made it work, but no, of course, it didn't get finished.

Eesh.

But, the father's loved their gifts. Ryan made out like a bandit. Two new (so two got thrown out) polos from his parents, a card from Rory, and a keychain off Etsy that says We Love Daddy on one side and has the kids' names on the other. And, he and Lee are taking a bbq class together to get certified to judge bbq competitions in a couple weeks (Lee's Father's Day gift). They'll actually get to relax then.

Here's more pictures.

Ginormasaur is 3 months old wearing 6 month clothes that barely fit.

But he's cute.

And he loves to nom his hands.

Rory did lots of measuring. "GUYS! This one is 23 pounds!"

"GUYS! Did you hear me?"

Cuties

Andrew and Rory both love to play with hangers.

A Rory original still life: Flowers in Purple Vase with Snowman. Her name is written twice: once in my favorite color, once in daddy's. The flowers are two buds that haven't opened yet and a rose.

She was NOT TIRED. The two tantrums underscored it.

A much needed deviled egg break. Thank goodness the crazy branches didn't break the table.

Happy hibiscus, loved all the rain this week.

A lot.

Not my best picture, but Jess the birthday girl looks fab. And, yay! June birthdays are done (there are 4)!

Marathoner extraordinaire Carolyn is heading to MN soon for whatever that marathon is. :)

My favorite onesie is too short and won't button over his diaper booty anymore. :(
