So....

Moulin Rouge came out 10 years ago. I have never seen it. I have seen the first 20-30 minutes multiple times, but that's as far as I get before turning it off in disgust. This time I tried a new tactic (why? I don't know. Because I'm a glutton for punishment). I paused it, and came back to it the next day. I made it an hour and a half in, and then I couldn't take it anymore. It's so annoying and syrupy! Jerky cinematography and colorful sets is not the same thing as creativity! Trying to blend three operas/dramas together instead of just remaking one is too much.

And did anybody notice that none of the other cabaret dancers are all that attractive? I'm sure that was no accident, and part of Kidman's contract. The whole thing, for all it's focus on Bohemian values, is solidly soulless. I already hate the song Roxanne, the Roxanne tango made my ears bleed a little. Kidman has a great voice, McGregor has a great voice (although it's too pretty, I like rougher and deeper male voices), but dear god, that movie was boring and hurt my ears.

I made it an hour and a half through. Now I'm watching Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog. A little NPH to soothe my soul.
