Rory had her first experience with not being an only child this week. I bought some yarn to make a blanket for the baby. While she watched me crochet she asked, "What are you making?"
"A blanket for the baby."
"...and me?"
"Nope. It's just for the baby."
"And me?"
"No. Just the baby."
"But we can share it?"
"No, you have your own. This is for the baby."
Silence. "Oh."
I reached into my bag and pulled out some jewel colored rainbow yarn and a large crochet hook.
"But I got this so I can teach you how to make something."
Big smiles. But ultimately, she decided it was too hard (3 is a little young). I am making her a scarf for school, and she is thrilled.
